School Supply Drive for Shelter House a Success
Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies for children at Shelter House. While the families at Shelter House work to gain stable housing and employment, it is challenging for them to find money for school supplies as their children head back to school. We collected 7 backpacks, 46 notebooks, 38 folders, 26 boxes of tissues, 25 boxes of Ziploc bags, 16 containers of wipes and many other supplies including crayons, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks and markers. These supplies will help prepare many children for school this year!
We are switching from our first-Sunday-of-the-month food ingathering to a summer food drive. In the month of August, our parish will support the pantry housed at Knox Presbyterian Church on behalf of the Falls Church Community Service Council (FCS). The Knox Food Pantry acts as an emergency "stop-gap" for families in the greater Falls Church area who have been referred by welfare agencies and local clergy. Supplies in the summer run low. Please place items in the bins located at the entrance of the historic church Sundays in August. Any nonperishable items are fine, but in particular bring: canned fruit, cooking oil, 2 lb. bags of rice, coffee, sugar, soup, diapers, baby wipes, toilet paper, laundry detergent, paper towels, and soap. Pick up a flyer to stick in your wallet or purse!
Invite--Welcome--Connect Initial Meetings
Following the services on August 17 and 24, 2014, there will be an organizational meeting to kick-off the new program. Invite--Welcome--Connect gives us a path forward to grow The Falls Church Episcopal. Our vibrant, diverse and welcoming community will be made stronger, and will help us plan and implement programs that insure that The Falls Church Episcopal will be a loving and supportive community for generations to come.
Please grab a cup of coffee and a snack and make your way to Nicolson Hall for a one hour meeting. We hope to start just after 11:30 and finish no later than 12:30. Even if you did not attend the workshop, please come and see the ideas generated at the workshop and the results of the survey follow-up. You will be able to join a group and add your own ideas. The second meeting will include feedback from the vestry and a progress report of what has been accomplished, what we hope to do first, and how you can be part of team that moves us from a survive to a thrive mentality.
Young Families Fellowship
Join us to connect with other young families in our parish over a kid-friendly dinner. We will meet August 21 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the parish playground or in the case of inclement weather in Nicolson Hall. To receive more details please email the church office.
