The Falls Church Episcopal and the search team need your help to find our next Director of Children's  and Family Ministries and Director of Youth Ministries!  We know the very best candidates are often already linked in some way to the congregation they will serve or they know someone who is.  Our search team asks you to:

  • Pray for us and for the candidates God will lead us to hire.

  • Talk to a few people you know, or email them,  and let them know The Falls Church Episcopal is looking for a Children's and Family Minister and Youth Minister.

  • Give one of our search team members the name and contact information and we will follow up!

We are working with a group of consultants called Ministry Architects.

Thank you for your prayers and support during this important search.

Blessings,

Search Committee

Update on the Search for a Director of Children’s and Family Ministries and a Director of Youth Ministries - June 8, 2018

The search committee is excited to report our progress over the last three months! On March 21, we held our search committee orientation followed shortly by our onsite ministry assessment on April 8-10. As of today, the search committee, with help from Ministry Architects, has evaluated 34 Youth Ministry Candidates and 20 Children's Ministry Candidates (54 total!). We've narrowed down our Youth Ministry candidate field from 34 to approximately six finalists with our committee's goal of finishing meeting these finalists via videoconference on June 11. On the Children's Ministry side, our current field of 20 has been narrowed to three who we will begin meeting on June 18. Our goal has been, and continues to be, to have both positions filled by August 31 and we are right on track. In addition, a dedicated group of parishioners has come together to start working on the short-term and long-term planning suggested by Ministry Architects, such as creating job descriptions for volunteers and drafting a mission statement for children’s ministry. If you have questions about the process, please do not hesitate to be in touch with the staff members involved, the Rev. Kelly Moughty (kmoughty@thefallschurch.org) and Sarah Bentley Allred (seminarian@thefallschurch.org).

An Update for the Children and Youth Search Committee - May 24, 2018

The Search Committee for our new Director of Children and Family Ministries and the Director of Youth Ministries have been hard at work!  With the assistance of our search consulting team at Ministry Architects, they have begun receiving applications and reviewing them.  But we need your help.

Do you know someone who knows our next children’s or youth minister?

One of the best practices Ministry Architects recommends is for the entire congregation to start thinking like “six degrees of Kevin Bacon”…almost 70% of their placements come from working congregational connections.  There’s a good chance that one of you is already connected to our future staff.  So who do you know who is plugged-in to children’s activities in Northern Virginia?  Might they have an idea of a person of faith who is gifted with kids?  Are you still in touch with your old youth minister?  Might they know someone else in the field who is looking?

The Search Committee has put together some materials to help make this easy for you!  Here are two paragraphs, one describing each position,  that you could work into an email or a social media post.  And here are two images you could use as well.

Thanks for taking the time to think out who might connect you to our new staff!  And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Rev. Kelly.

Director of Children’s and Family Ministries

The Falls Church Episcopal is an intentionally welcoming, thriving, transformative church that is simultaneously one of the oldest and youngest congregations in the country. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Children's and Family Ministries who understands the unique developmental needs of children and their families and has the skills to build meaningful, relational opportunities for mission and ministry in the congregation, with the greater community, and with the world at large. The Children's Ministry is currently using one of the most sought-after (and fun!) curriculums, Godly Play, and has an abundance of enthusiastic parents eager to support this growing ministry.

Director of Youth Ministries

The Falls Church Episcopal is an intentionally welcoming, thriving, transformative church that is simultaneously one of the oldest and youngest congregations in the country. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Youth Ministry who understands the unique developmental needs of teens and their families and has the skills to build meaningful, relational opportunities for mission and ministry with their peers, within the congregation, in the greater community, and with the world at large. This individual will lay the groundwork for a wave of students expected to age into Youth Ministry from an active Sunday School with 100+ elementary-age participants and has an abundance of adults eager to support this growing ministry.

Youth Ministry Listening Session

April 26, 2018

Please join the Children and Youth Ministers Search Committee members for listening sessions on the evening of May 6. All parents and students of ages fourth through twelfth grade are welcome to participate to share their experiences of the program so far and where they would like to see it go in the future! From 6:00 to 7:00 pm we'd like to talk to students and parents between fourth and seventh grades; and from 7:15 to 8:15, we'd like to talk to parents and students from eighth through twelfth grades. Even if your young person hasn't been active in the program, we would love to hear from you about why and what might change that. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rev. Kelly at kmoughty@thefallschurch.org.

Update on Children and Youth Ministers Search Process

March 22, 2018

In the announcement last week about staffing changes and additions at The Falls Church John mentioned that we are working with a consulting firm called Ministry Architects that specializes in assessing children and youth ministry programs at congregations and running the search processes for open positions.  As part of the assessment process, two consultants from Ministry Architects will be coming to The Falls Church to observe and listen to the congregation on what our hopes and dreams are for these programs over the next several years.

We have invited Ministry Architects to come and do that assessment of our Children’s Ministry (up to 5th grade) program on Sunday, April 8th through Tuesday, April 10th.  They will host a series of small group listening sessions for parents, volunteers, and parishioners-at-large that Sunday afternoon.  To sign-up and participate in one of those 75 minute sessions, please go to the top of this page.  On Monday they will meet with staff, ministry leaders, and Day School representatives.  Then, on the evening of Tuesday, April 10th we’ll have a presentation from our consultants about what they learned over their visit here - including assets, challenges, and how we compare to children’s ministries around the country –  and where it seems that God might be taking us next. The presentation will be from 6-7:15pm and pizza and childcare will be provided beginning at 5:30pm.  All members of the congregation are invited to that presentation.

The Search Committee also intends to run a similar series of conversations around our Youth Ministry program (6th-12th grades) in following weeks, so look for more information about that to come.

Your participation in these assessments is critical to building the sustainable programs that will give our young people the grounding and resiliency that comes from their faith for the rest of their lives.  Please sign-up to participate!
