When people in power believe in conspiracy theories, how do we respond?
That is the question an audience will wrestle with this Saturday, October 19th at 7:30 p.m. when The Falls Church hosts the season-opener of Little City Concerts' 2024-25 season.
WAKING THE WITCH is an immersive chamber opera in one act by local composer Ashi Day and performed by the instrumental ensemble Balance Campaign, which is returning for its second concert here. The 75-minute opera explores the danger of mixing authority and religion with black-and-white thinking, fear of those with less power, and conspiracy theories. The audience assumes the role of an accused witch, physically surrounded by a single-minded interrogator and animal familiars of questionable reality. The opera's strong themes are probably not suitable for our youngest members, but teenagers and adults will have a unique musical experience that explores issues all faithful people should think about.
$25 general admission, free for students/youth. Tickets available at the door or online at LittleCityConcerts.org. 50% of ticket sales benefit The News Literacy Project, an organization which works with schools to educate students in media literacy.
