In Matthew 25, Jesus makes clear where he is to be found here on earth, and the answer is in the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and those in prison.
At The Falls Church we are striving to turn our growth into action to serve Jesus in all these forms in our local community. Our efforts are guided by the Outreach Committee which works with the staff, the vestry, and the congregation to discern where the gifts of our congregation meet the needs in our community. It often takes the form of partnerships with many wonderful organizations in the greater Falls Church community.
On the second Sunday of each month a team of volunteers prepares and serves dinner for up to 100 people at the Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter- we’re the taco team!
The Thrifty Church Mouse
Members of our congregation founded The Thrifty Church Mouse, a thrift store with clothing and small home goods at affordable prices, and where all the money raised goes back into the church for further service to the community.
Meals on Wheels
We are proud to be one of the drop sites for Meals on Wheels of Eastern Fairfax County where parishioners also volunteer.
Each April we have a team of people working with Rebuilding Together to do home repair work for someone in need in our community.
Social Justice Committee
of Falls Church
Several of our parishioners are founding members of the Social Justice Committee of Falls Church, which seeks to engage congregations, businesses, government, and local non-profits in conversations around racial reconciliation.
Refugee Support Ministry
Our Refugee Support Ministry partners with Lutheran Social Services to do apartment set-ups for refugees who are the newest members of our local community.
Just about every month of the year we also participate in drives to gather items for various community organizations, from food for Falls Church Community Service Council, to school supplies for children living at Shelter House, from providing Thanksgiving Dinner to families at Homestretch, to providing Christmas presents for children in Fairfax County’s therapeutic foster care program, and gathering hygiene products for the Center for Survivors of Torture and Trauma at Northern Virginia Family Services. And each year The Falls Church Endowment Fund gives away tens of thousands of dollars to these organizations and more as part of their grant program to support organizations that serve the needs of Greater Falls Church.
