Community Opportunities

Ways to help locally

during COVID-19

We are a welcoming community called to be an enduring beacon of faith, hope, and love
Looking for local opportunities
to help those in need?

Below you will find opportunities that we have heard about through members of the congregation

regarding ways to help out locally during Covid-19.  We will be adding to this as new ideas become available.

If you have something you would like added to this page please email Casie Disantis.

Support local Falls Church City Public School's families in need.  Donate to the Falls Church Education Foundation's Family Assistance Fund to support emergency food, shelter, and transportation needs for FCCPS students and families most impacted by Covid 19.

NHH Bag Lunch Flyer 4-7-2020.jpg

Make bagged lunches for a local homeless shelter. New Hope Housing is opening up a drop-in program for unsheltered homeless people, adding to the numbers of people being fed each day. They need bag lunches for this program and this flyer provides information on how individual families can prepare sandwiches and/or full bag lunches at home and then drop them off to be handed out at the shelter.

Order takeout!  The City's listing of local restaurants offering to-go/delivery is continually being updated, now with easy one-lick links to menus and ordering.  Please consider supporting them if you are able!

Floral Card

Make a Homemade Card!  Nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other homes around our area would love to have good cheer spread through cards for both the residents and the care givers.  Here are some ideas of some local places you could mail or drop off cards:

Donate to the Food Box.  If you often drive or walk on/near East Fairfax St., please consider placing non-perishable food and small toiletries in the Pantry located outside the Thrifty Church Mouse, near the sidewalk. Created by a local Girl Scout troop which apparently relies on the community to stock it, the pantry gets emptied rather quickly of things like granola bars, tins of vienna sausages, tuna or chicken snack packs, poptop ravoli or spaghettios.  Toiletries are also welcome.

Donate grocery store gift cards to local families in need.  Timber Lane Elementary School, located less than two miles from The Falls Church, is a Title 1 school which means there is a large concentration of low-income students receiving free or reduced meals. The PTA wants to support these families as many rely upon these meals to feed their children.  You can make secured donations through the PTA's PayPal account HERE.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jeremy Jester at jeremy.j.jester@gmail.com
