Joel Wood
A native of Falls Church and graduate of George Mason University (‘13), Joel has served in a variety of administration and communication positions at parishes in the Diocese of Virginia and The Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC. Recently, Joel was appointed by Bishop Stevenson to serve on the Diocesan Committee on Music and Liturgy, which plans and implements Diocesan worship services and represents the Diocese at the National Liturgical Conference. Joel is also on the advisory committee of Water and Wilderness Church, a watershed community of people near and far who seek authentic connection to God and one another through nature-based worship, book studies, and immersive nature retreats. Joel’s approach to parish administration is simple: offer effective office procedures, encourage collaboration across the parish, and to always do so with pastoral care and a welcoming presence.
A former Roman Catholic, Joel was received into The Episcopal Church in May 2021, a decision rooted in his appreciation for a faith community that is built upon many perspectives, where differences of opinion and questioning are not just accepted, but encouraged.
Outside of The Falls Church, Joel is an active parishioner, bible study leader, and Sunday School assistant at St. George's Episcopal, Arlington. In his free time Joel enjoys making music, fishing, hiking, and spending time with his family. Joel, his wife Elizabeth, daughter Charlotte, and rescue dog Alex reside in the East Falls Church neighborhood of Arlington.
